From October 21 to 27, 2024, the 9th Annual Symposium of the Chinese Chapter of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA), Academician Qiu Fazu's 110th birthday academic thought seminar, and the Memorial Session for Academician Liu Yunyi were held in Wuhan, Hubei.
The conference, hosted by the Chinese Chapter of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA), adhered to the theme of "Exchange, Standardization, Innovation, and Development." The event brought together 600 leading experts in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery worldwide, with over 2,000 participants in attendance. The large-scale conference featured a wealth of academic content, offering a series of engaging sessions, with packed audiences and no empty seats throughout the event.
On October 21, 2024, the event started with eight major medical centers across China, including Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, leading the way. Nine classic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries were broadcast live online, attracting an unprecedented 200,000 views from medical professionals, and generating a tremendous response.
The main venue, along with dozens of sub-venues and specialized sessions, debuted and unfolded in an orderly manner. The high level of expertise and large scale of the event makes it one of the largest hepatobiliary academic gatherings in China in recent years.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Chen Xiaoping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Honorary Director of the Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, delivered a speech and awarded various certificates on behalf of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association China Congress.
At the event, six world-renowned experts, including Professor William Jarnagin, former President of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and Professor René Adam, current President of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, were appointed as visiting professors at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Additionally, an honorary membership ceremony was held for 12 world-renowned experts, including Professor Krishnakumar Madhaven, the incoming President of the IHPBA, and Professor Eduard Jonas, President of the European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.
The conference simultaneously hosted more than ten academic meetings, including the China-Africa Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Cooperation Forum, the Belt and Road Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Forum, and the China-Japan-Korea Forum. Experts at the conference engaged in in-depth discussions on hot topics and challenging issues in the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery exchanged treatment experiences, promoted new concepts and technologies, and worked towards further improving the diagnosis and treatment standards of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases in China.
According to the report, The International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association China Congress was established in 2003 and holds an academic symposium every two years. Since 2004, it has successfully hosted eight editions, becoming an important platform for academic communication in the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in China. The 9th Annual Symposium integrates academic discussions, commemorative activities, and educational training, offering a rich and diverse program. While honoring and passing on the academic spirit and contributions of Academician Qiu Fazu and Academician Liu Yunyi, the conference will feature over a hundred renowned experts and scholars from both domestic and international backgrounds. They will deliver keynote speeches on the latest technologies and treatment methods in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, sharing their research findings and clinical experiences. In addition, a session on training young physicians and the National Accelerated Postoperative Rehabilitation (ERAS) Training and Exchange Conference will also be held during the event to enhance the professional skills and clinical practice abilities of young doctors.
